The fate of the APC primary election in Ibadan Southwest Constituency 1 is still hanging in the air. The primary election was canceled after efforts to conduct a kangaroo election were forcibly aborted by the people. Initially, there was an insinuation that one of the contestants, Akere was the selected candidate by the party leaders. Mr. Akere was already flamboyantly parading himself before the information
leaked to the press that Ms. Tolani, had been selected by the party leadership. Surprisingly, there is another twist that the position is still unfilled, and the APC Reconciliation Committee is saddled with the responsibility of filling the position.
Among the aspirants for the constituency 1, House of Assembly position in Ibadan Southwest L.G, Dr. MKO Abimbola (Abogun) stands out and he deserves a closer look and appreciation. None of the other contestants can rival his educational accomplishment. He holds a doctoral degree in physician associate studies from a prestigious university in the United States. This gentleman resigned from a reputable job, in the United States, to contest an election, which eventually, did not take place because of the fraudulent practices by some party bigwigs.
Before his resignation in April 2022, he worked as a federal employee in the United States Veterans Affairs Hospital as a medical provider. According to him, he needed to yield to the clarion calls of contributing his quotas to his community in Nigeria.
In terms of name recognition, with his philanthropic and magnanimous spending, his deceased brother, Hon Fatai Abimbola (Abogun) has established the strong political network and recognition, necessary to win any election in Oyo State. MKO also outspent all other aspirants in terms of electioneering spending. He proved beyond doubt that he is up to the tasks especially when his presence disrupted the political space. As a columnist, he is renowned for the “Health Education with Dr. MKO Abimbola” every Wednesday in Nigerian Daily Independent Newspaper.
In terms of quality leadership and accomplishment, MKO has put together futuristic agenda, capable of exemplary accomplishments. He promises adoption and helpful connections between constituency one and a city in the United States. The House of Assembly position will not be the first legislative effort. MKO is behind the physician associate bill 2022 currently being debated in the Federal House of
Representatives in Abuja, FCT. If this bill gets enacted and passed, healthcare access and delivery will be tremendously improved in Nigeria. This bill will create thousands of employment opportunities throughout the country.
In conclusion, Dr. MKO Abimbola will defeat any candidate either PDP, Accord party, or any other political party. The incumbent and his father have been praying for a different candidate because MKO Abimbola is arguably the best candidate for the APC party and the duo’s worst nightmare. Dr. MKO Abimbola will bring impeccable and integrity-driven leadership to the constituency and the state house of assembly. The APC Reconciliation Committee should seriously consider an educated, compassionate, forward-looking, and enlightened technocrat who ventures into Nigerian politics to salvage the country.
In order for us to win this constituency and support our governor, we need genuine reconciliation. Reconciliation is retrospective and proactive. Let the reconciliation committee be given the free hands to reconcile all with a view to enabling our governor make equitable distribution of dividends of democracy the new norm. I have absolute confidence that at the end of the process, APC will come out stronger.
