Saturday showed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling Labour Party (LP) were in a tight race.
Alhough, mixed reactions characterised the election but security was tight in the two local governments where the election took place as soldiers and mobile policemen enforced the strict restriction of movement order.
There were reports of cancellation of votes in some units in the constituency.
Seven political parties fielded candidates for the election, three of them: the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples’ Democratic Party and the Labour Party (LP) were in the race in the real sense of it.
It was however, gathered that there was no election in three units at Ogogoro due to allegation of fake voters’ cards presented by some voters, which caused arguments among stakeholders.
Election was cancelled in the entire 12 units of Arogbo Ward II in Ese Odo Local Government due to the invasion of the Ward Collation Centre by some ex-militants, who disrupted the distribution of election materials, alleging that they were not taken care of in the Federal Government Amnesty Programme.
According to the result released so far particularly from wards in Ilaje Local Government Area, the LP candidate, Kolade Akinjo, was leading slightly over the PDP candidate, Adewale Kukute.
In Mahin Ward 1, PDP had 330 votes while LP scored 676. In Mahin Ward 11 PDP had 1756 while LP Polled2012. In Mahin III, PDP scored 1254 and LP,1448, in Ugbo Ward II, PDP polled 1227 and LP, 2085 votes, just as PDP got 607 in Ugbo Ward III and LP, 540 votes. The PDP scored PDP,874 at Ugbo Ward V while LP scored 964 votes.
Also, there was no election in New Jerusalem in Arogbo Ward 1 due to what the Chairman of the Federal Government Amnesty Programme, Hon Kingsley Kuku, described as unresolved issues.
Kuku, who described the affected areas as the stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) however, said election process was generally improving in Nigeria.
