Celebrating the remarkable journey of Nee Risikat Atoke Solotan is not just about commemorating her 80 years of life; it is about honoring a legacy woven with grace, love, and resilience. As a mother , grandmother and mother-in-law, she has touched countless lives, imparting wisdom and warmth in every interaction. We gather not only to celebrate her milestones but also to share the stories that make her the incredible woman she is.
Reaching the age of 80 is a significant milestone, and for mom, it is a testament to her grace and strength. Throughout her life, she has embodied dignity, navigating the joys and challenges with a smile. Her commitment to family and faith has been her guiding light, and it has brought together generations around her, creating a legacy that will be cherished for years to come.
Her ability to love unconditionally is perhaps her most remarkable trait. She has a unique way of making each family member feel special and valued. Through her nurturing spirit, she has created a haven of love, enriching our lives and teaching us the true meaning of family.
The teachings of mom extend far beyond the confines of mere words; they resonate deeply in our hearts. One of her most profound lessons is the importance of kindness. She has shown us that small acts of generosity can create ripples of positivity, affecting those around us in ways we may not immediately see. Whether it was helping a neighbor or sharing with a friend, she has been a living example of how kindness can change the world.
Her approach to life has instilled in us the value of empathy. She encouraged us to put ourselves in others’ shoes, fostering understanding and compassion. Through her gentle guidance, we have learned that kindness isn’t just an act; it’s a way of life. Every interaction is an opportunity to uplift others, and each day is a chance to spread love. If we follow her directives to the letter, she wants all the proceeds put together for the celebration of this milestone be used for the less privileged in our midst. Since she could not stop us, she instructed that no one be gated out of the event irrespective of his/her social status.
In a world that often divides us by our beliefs, the love between mom and me is a beautiful testament to the power of acceptance. As a devout Christian, I have found an unexpected ally in her, a Muslim woman whose heart knows no boundaries. She has embraced my faith with love and respect, teaching me that love transcends religious differences.
Her unconditional love has created a safe space for open conversations about our beliefs. We have learned from each other, finding common ground in our shared values of love, compassion, and forgiveness. Our relationship is a reflection of how diverse perspectives can coexist, creating a harmonious bond that enriches our lives.
As we celebrate her 80 years, I am grateful for the love she has shown me as a son-in-law. Her acceptance has empowered me to embrace my faith while celebrating hers. Together, we have built a beautiful relationship that honors our differences and unites us in love, proving that understanding and respect can bridge any divide.
One of the sweetest aspects of my relationship with mom is the endearing name she calls me sometimes: “Oko Mi,” which means “my husband” in our native tongue. This term of affection reflects the bond we share and the warmth of her love. It’s more than just a name; it’s a declaration of her acceptance and affection as a mother-in-law who embraces me as her own. Only our moms call us by this unique title. Not even our wives. With this title I often harass my wife by letting her know that I am her father. Your mom’ husband is your stepfather and a stepfather is always the father that steps up.
Each time she calls me “Oko Mi,” I feel a surge of warmth and belonging. It is a reminder of the unconditional love that flows within our family, transcending cultural and religious boundaries. Her affectionate way of addressing me encapsulates the nurturing spirit that defines her, making me feel cherished and valued.
As a Dai who is working steadfastly on core believes of this calling, mom believes Da’wah is more than just inviting others to Islam; it is an act of love, mercy, and a profound reminder of our shared humanity. To her by engaging in Da’wah, Muslims fulfill their responsibility to spread the message of Allah, strengthen their own faith, and leave behind a legacy of goodness and guidance. Da’wah is a form of sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity) and mom is pulling all of us to give to this cause. She lives by these ethos and candor. This adequately summarizes everything about mom.
Today, we honor not only the years she has lived but also the meaningful relationships she has cultivated. Her life has been a beautiful tapestry of interactions, woven with threads of joy, laughter, and unyielding support. Celebrating her 80 years is merely a reflection of the grace she has shown in her lifetime, and we are all the better for it. As we gather to celebrate this special occasion, we reflect on the elegant way she has carried herself through the decades. From her youth, filled with vibrant stories of adventure, to her present, where she effortlessly shares her wisdom, her life is an inspiring narrative of perseverance and compassion. With every conversation and every laugh, she has taught me that grace is found not just in grand gestures but in the everyday moments of love and kindness.
Finally, I can say with all emphasis that she altruistic to a fault. She lives what she preaches.
Happy born day, my mother and mother-in-law.
