2015 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: OUR POSITION …BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

We are not unaware of the on-going horse trading and different strokes of political maneuvering among the leadership of Labour party and People's Democratic Party concerning the 2015 General Election in OGUN State. We are equally fully aware of the various political calculations , permutations and conspiracies concerning who should fly the flag of the party incase the merger talk is subscribed to by the parties involved. While we see a lot of wisdom in the latest moves to achieve unity of purpose towards the next general election, it can only be seen to be a right step in totality if the political players decide to act in concert with the OGUN west question.

We wish to state unequivocally that any political arrangement aimed at changing the Governorship of OGUN State in the unfolding scenario that does not put into consideration the agitation of the people of OGUN west for equity and justice will definite not produce desirable result. We have said it before now and we shall continue to emphasise the fact that OGUN State is a joint project of three Senatorial districts namely; West, Central and East and that the business of how and who govern it should not be an exclusive dominant of a particular section of the State.

We have received a lot of questionable insinuations in some quarters concerning the major criterion for selection that the choice of who govern the State should be based on how wealthy and influential a candidate is , not minding if all the missing funds in the nation's treasury are traceable to such persons' accounts.

The questions in our lips are whether this is the true sense in principle and practice of participatory democracy alluded to in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and indeed the electoral act or that it has come to reason that the choice of who govern the state such as OGUN , a state that had produced frontline personalities in all human endeavour be based on wealthy individuals at the expense of intellectual capability.

In view of the aforementioned, let us therefore sound our previous note of warning once again that OGUN west massive participation in any political party agenda shall be based on realisation of our agenda for equity, justice and fairness.

Our positions are clear;

1. The OGUN west agenda for 2015 is CHANGE based on POWER SHIFT.

2. We have resolved to support any political party that recognise the need for equity and justice in OGUN State governance and the choice of its flag bearer for the Governorship position in the coming election as the party that will enjoy massive patronage of our people.

3. The people of OGUN west rather than support any new candidate from other Senatorial districts for another 8years' deal shall massively support the aspiration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun for second term which will not take us beyond 2015….oosa boo le gbemi , semi bi ose bami

We therefore call on our political actors from OGUN west to stay clear from any political negotiations and consultations that are not in congruence with the genuine political aspiration of the people of the senatorial district else they shall be blacklisted as collaborators of the powers against our collective goals and aspirations .

OGUN State belong to the west, central and east …long live OGUN State.

Dapo Oke
Chairman, OGUN west Rebirth.
